I would have read a some if it was there. One never knows how big an argument the folks on SI are making when they trot out one anecdote and want to distill a general rule. In California there are now some pretty stringent laws against double dipping. There is a limit on how much work you can do after you retire and still get benefits. So California sure isn't Greece any more, if it ever was- though I've seen some pretty amazing stories on the retirements of fire and police workers. But they were stories because they were unusual.
