Well, good luck with just time and price, been there done that.

Every day the market is a cloud, when you watch an average you are only looking at the densest part of the cloud. From an average, you have no idea how broad the density is / how many stocks are participating along with the herd. I think this is why T.A. solely based on price of an index is often harder than on individual stocks. Occasionally you get a day where stocks are completely spread out form eachother and there is no density at all, an average is worthless in that case, or sometimes you get days where there are 2 equally dense clusters. etc etc.
