Japan is the only story I'm aware of which hasn't resulted in dramatic deleveraging, and their story is far from the final chapter.

Its also a country which has a deleveraging population. I guess the USA could get to that state as well if the AZ immigration policies catch on in more states.

I don't disagree with your basic views on debt, its just that I think the issues are more complex. FWIW, much of our debt problems are related to foreign countries currency & export policies as much as our own central bank. We are much different from Japan in that sense also.

I'd like to see your original graph with several more curves on its:

1) Interest rates
2) Inflation
3) Balance of trade
4) Population growth

Some interesting things might pop out.
