We know that the Obama administration rejected crucial aid and has been heavily criticized. Doing now makes sense but only reinforces the poor decisions made earlier. It is also politically a necessity to do so now. Obama is looking at the polls...

I agree.

We should never be "too proud" to accept offers of help.

(Of course, 'in the beginning' we really didn't have much of a handle on how big the leap was, or how long lasting it would prove to be.)
