patron, Did you happen to read Naomi Klein's, "The Shock Doctrine"? She had an interesting take on Volker's motives. I'm not saying I agree with the idea, but it was an unexpected explanation. Although I'm not making any profit from the market move into the close, it pleases me that the market is doing what it should do. Plenty of time to put on shorts, as there is some serious meat to the next support level (I don't buy that BS about 1025 offering much support...it is much lower...950 at least). GT TH
