By chance, only yesterday I was speaking with a trader in Hawaii (where I presume mopeds are popular).

He told me that a 150cc Honda Moped was $1800, and had me interested. However here in northern NJ a 150cc Honda would get you killed due to the traffic.

But to step back to the Tesla for a moment, I have no problem with a neat car that can zip along silently. Recently I even thought about looking at a motorcycle that runs on a battery (or batteries, I do not know).

Still in all the only place I could have such a car repaired is probably going to be a Tesla dealership. Recently, perhaps a year ago, they opened one in downtown Manhattan.

My home isn't in Manhattan so the potential for a problem is distressing. Buying the Tesla Lotus could only be supported as practical if it was purchased as a second car. Also, when I was looking at the Tesla as a potential purchase the Lotus body was the only one available and the 4 door was always something that was in the works.

I also tried to justify it based on fuel. At the time, a 90,000 dollar car to be used as a spare. Presumed 10,000 miles a year. (I drive the Saturn about 5,500 miles a year so 10 would be a stretch. However I was trying to justify it because I really liked the idea of having an electric car).

I don't recall the numbers any longer, but it would have taken several years to justify it and that's assuming there wasn't any significant mechanical failure. Speaking with Tesla, they assured me that the battery would last x number of years, however they did not have any idea where I could get a replacement if it was needed. Again, this was 5 or 6 years ago.They were pushing out only a few Teslas a month and getting a spare part (Battery) was a difficult proposition. The waiting list for cars was almost a year out, and of course they needed to fill new orders, not slip a battery out of production for a failure already on the road.

Now (hopefully) this production issue isn't a problem any longer. However I'll wait and see what the repair issues are before considering it again.
