For the record, in at $24. Looking for $30 to $32 in January.

DD makers will shake out and WDC will be a profitable survivor.

I thought this was easy to see months ago for this reason: Maxtor was selling 5.1 gig drives for $300. and WDC was selling 4.3 drives for $399.00.

Maxtor has been selling much larger drives for much less and Western Digital drives no longer looked competitive. I saw a HUGE Maxtor drive for 449., I think it was 8.6 gig.

You are correct about the margin up to a point, but volume discounters have still made much profit if volume is very very high. This might be a transition time. Longterm, WDC will be ok.
