The melting point of steel at 2,800 degrees F is about 1,000 degrees higher than the maximum burning temperature of jet-fuel-based fires, which do not exceed 1,800 degrees under optimal conditions; but the NIST examined 236 samples of steel and found that 233 had not been exposed to temperatures above 500 degrees F and the others not above 1200.

The steel doesn't have to melt, it only has to get weaker, even 500 degrees makes the still weaker. Add on top of that much of it was missing from where the plane entered, and on the other side where at least some of the plane left, and many floors were torn out which distorted the outer wall outward, which put stress on the truss angle supports which held the floors in place. A little more heat and the beams bowed out just a few inchs which pulled the angle supports out with them allowing the floors to fall and pancake on top of each other. Only one floor had to fail to cause all of them to fail.

Underwriters Laboratory certified the steel in the buildings up to 2,000 degrees F for three or four hours without any significant effects, where these fires burned neither long enough or hot enough—at an average temperature of about 500 degrees for about one hour in the South Tower and one and a half in the North—to weaken, much less melt.

Well missing here is that much of the insulation on the steel was torn off the steel, either from the plane crashing through, or from the shock wave from the impact. Of course we cannot be sure they had enough insulation to begin with. Many contractors cheat when they can, and often insulation is disturbed during renovations, and remodeling, something that happens often in high rent offices, especially when new clients move in. If the insulation was insufficient, it is not proof the government conspired to do this to be sure that it collapsed.

So you would rather trust a bunch of radical lefties instead of profesional engineers?
