Thanks S., That's the guy alright. And fortunately there is a book about him and his accomplishments: amazon.com Maybe I'll learn a bit about agriculture science. As it is, I don't know squat. From the wiki pages, he seems to fit the criteria pretty well. Considering that he quit the project that eventually led to his great success until they allowed him to try something very unconventional, I'd say he did what he did fairly single-handedly. Here's a nice interview of Borlaug from PBS: pbs.org In order to get something about Claire Patterson, I have to go to a university library. Seems that the city libraries around here just don't carry his stuff. Maybe not enough greed or money involved to titillate the public. Anyway, been meaning to get a card at the U of Texas library anyway. Anyhow, thanks again, S.
