An article in the Wall Street Journal notes that scientists have identified genetic markers for the proclivity to live a long life

Insurance is a calculated gamble on the part of the underwriters, one that I don't think is much changed by a genetic marker for long life. It is, for one, only a potential for long life, since we're discovering genes aren't just on or off, here or there, but are very complex animals that interact with the environment. Second, the calculation already takes long life potential into account as part of the gamble. Third, a gene for long life doesn't save an insured from being run over by a bus.
