There is a 55,000-acre federal ecological preserve beyond state waters off the coast of the city of Santa Barbara. The history of this thread is that you claimed the state of California wouldn't allow offshore oil drilling, The state doesn't allow it. What I didn't know was that the state controls the drilling only 3 miles out from the shoreline. Beyond that its a federal issue. See how much you can learn on this thread. and it was pointed out that state waters only go out three miles; Yes, that came as a surprise to me. I didn't know that. then you said there were wells but no drilling, No, I said there was no drilling in waters controlled by the State. I just thought they controlled further out than 3 miles. and it was pointed out that drilling continues on existing federal leases; then you said the platforms were so far out they couldn't be seen, I've never seen them. The 101 doesn't run right on the shoreline.....it zigs in and out from the shoreline but its rarely closer than a mile. So its very possible they are not visible from the 101.and a photograph was produced; then you suggested the picture wasn't taken from shore, Do you see any land in that photo? Why couldn't the photo been taken off a boat? but the caption says it was; then you said the platform wasn't off the coast of the city of Santa Barbara, just Santa Barbara County. I never said anything about SB county. In sum, even though California has no authority over oil drilling in federally-protected marine sanctuaries or ecological preserves, there isn't any. Wouldn't it have been easier to say that at the beginning and drop all the snark and false accusations?
