There is a common self-interest in affordable energy long-term, a rationalized immigration situation, solvent entitlement programs, financial system stability, protection from man-made environmental disasters, and on and on.

I don't think there is more than a small, unstable minority who would oppose those common aims. And most of those are knee-jerk ideologues who will tolerate bad outcomes because they are theologically opposed to the actions we need to create good outcomes.

Sadly, that is a growing trend in American politics that could paralyze us back into complete inaction for decades to come. Like the last few decades, when all these problems grew and grew.

What then shall we do?
