We have had endless discussions here why stimulus spending is necessary now due to the economic collapse. But suddenly the Dems are supposed to become strict balanced-budget types to fix Washington, or they are evil.

That whole argument, IMHO, is so wrongly stated and formulated that it doesn't merit further discussion. Go ahead and rush back into the arms of the folks who brought you this economic mess, I wish you well. Clearly, they possess divine inspiration for how to fix everything and make us great again.

What I read him as saying is that the Republicans helped put all these people out of work, and that the Democrats now want to at least help keep these people afloat so that the recession doesn't turn into a full-blown Depression. It's an unfortunate situation, and we need to rise above ideology to deal with it.

Republicans especially need to rise above ideologies they only adopt when Democrats are in power.
