i have a question which may have been covered before-

if so i apologize. but i own a unit trust in canada which they say is taxed as mutual fund. so the unit trust pays no taxes when they sell stock for a gain , i guess the gain is part of the distribution to shareholders, and i guess that is only for realized gains. however the fund now has a significant amount of gains. and i would like to know if as a us shareholder that is just taxed at 15% or is it taxed at some other amount? also if i own it in an ira how can I reclaim that money?
