>Lots of talk about a double-dip recession. "Stimulus" isn't working as intended.

The same people that are predicting a double-dip recession are the same ones that said from the beginning that the stimulus that was passed wouldn't be enough (including me). It was enough to stop the bleeding for a while but it didn't do enough to fix the situation.

>a) Our consumption-driven economy has to change.

To what?

>b) How about we just grow government until everyone has a job?

It's worked in the past. And until everything that should be getting done is getting done (we do need huge investments in our infrastructure, more teachers, more regulators), then any government investment in those areas has multiple benefits. Think the TVA and rural electrification.

>c) Waging war against those who save is stupid.

Well, no one's advocating that. But having money be hoarded when we really, really need it to keep moving is not good.

>Bottom line is that there's nothing wrong with cushioning the blow. A soft landing is necessary for society to remain stable. Just don't expect recovery until we finally hit bottom. That could take years.

Why do we need to hit bottom?
