And if the fantasy energy economy doomers say they favor could even be built without drastically reducing our standard of living, it would be dependent on other substances that have even worse resource constraint issues (lithium, rare earths and metals) than petroleum and serious environmental issues as well as having serious reliability problems. If the things the doomers say they favor could work economically, they would be adopted without government compulsion.
