The blacks have been pushing for sometime that if a black gets in Law school he doesn't have to take the bar to be a Lawyer, just finish Law school. It's hasn't worked yet but I bet it will soon

He didn't hear a word you said, but nevermind.

The grad school I went to had a somewhat similar 'policy' ... first day or two, we were made aware that three quarters of us would be gone, hopefully with a terminal Master's, after the first year.

They had a fairly open admissions policy, but a much stricter one re. retention/graduation ... their idea was that they'd rather choose their PhD students themselves after getting to know 'em for a year, there's more to people than their test scores, etc ... come to think of it , their med school (McMaster, fwiw) has/had pretty much the same philosophy, didn't even require pre-med if they liked what they saw ...

btw, I was hoping you might weigh in on this. <g>
