OBVIOUSLY the ground could never subside around the blowout preventer' UNLESS strata had been eroded/undermined beneath. <GGG>

I am 'expecting' nothing. (Simply mentioning one possibility that has been advanced by various drilling specialists --- who have suggested the possibility --- possibility suggested by the failed pressure tests --- that the concrete lining around the drill bore might well have been compromised... allowing over-pressured oil and gas to penetrate into the porous strata behind the liner... and possibly follow it upward. Obviously not a good thing to have happen....)
