Back up the claim that India gave up any commitments of any sort. I challenge you.

That doesn't make any sense either. What "environmental fight" would be avoided by having India surrender their commitments to buy oil? How would it make "the oil guys happy"? What oil guys? Why would they be happy because India was presumably going to use less oil?
