Al, do you really think 0.8 percentage points of unemployment makes the difference between a "crisis" and a "catastrophe"? 1.2 million jobs "saved" at a cost of $787 billion (or 40% of it, given that the stimulus hasn't been completely spent yet) ... do the math. Hey, don't argue with me...argue with these 50 economists...they're probably just waiting for someone with your qualifications to set them straight. Al PS: I am pretty sure it's more complicated than your little puzzlement above...like second order effects and other consequential maladies of protracted stagnation.
