The South has been clearcut three times already not to mention the effects of the Civil War, and the forests that are there now are the result of clearcutting -- much of which was to clear land to grow hay for horses, which were the principal means of locomotion 150 years ago. People are going to have to get over their ill-conceived prejudices against harvesting crops and the effort required to restore the crop for another round before we can transition to biological sources of energy.
