I agree with you that the economy is complex. My basic assumption is that if you leave things alone chaos prevails and that it is in our DNA that we try to make order out of chaos.

Using your analogy, primitive societies are not likely to create "Rube Goldberg" contraptions that can create order out of complex situations. Overtime, societies acquire knowledge and know how to create more sophisticated contraptions that can work.

That is why we invented computers, collected data, and formulated economic models. But it is always about improving things and making proper decisions to solve complex problems.

I just don't understand the philosophy where we would be better off if we don't do things and things will take care of itself.
