They were testing both types. x2 did come out SLIGHTLY better. What really matters is quality of your local phone line. Most lines cannot do better than low 40s. Some not better than high 30s. So you perhaps have a good phone line and are lucky.

Lousy for upgrades. Of course, still a market for new computer modems. But increasingly people will move old modem over if it is 33.6 or better.
