First off, there are NO junior mining experts..lol..just a whole lot of wannabes, myself included. Actually, I am probably a wannabe wannabe.

Anyway, it is not uncommon for larger companies to take positions in juniors. Not an everyday thing, but it does happen. many ways to do this - JV, PP, buyout outright, etc.

The event happening does not mean the stock price will increase, the truth machines will determine that. But, G is a very reputable company and as such would not throw money away on a whim. EVG has two excellent prospective properties but suffered from rather poor management. The decks have been cleared of that and the G deal provides the market and the shareholders with a large step up in confidence that the Company is on the right track. Yes, there is dilution, but overall, this is a very positive step for EVG in my opinion.

Morning John:

I had a look back at Goldcorp's filings and a Google search for deals G has done with jrs. They are not common from what I could ascertain. They had a huge position in Silver Wheaton, now disposed of and they did buy into Osisiko some time ago. Neither
of those deals have much in common with that of the early stage EVG situation.

Goldcorp has no current position in Nevada and I think that may be the main driver for this PP but no harm for G to build a friendship over Rattlesnake either it is a deposit destined for a major in the end.. Given how few holes EVG has drilled and the fact they have a JV with Newmont yet have expanded their holdings substantially outside the JV properties this appears to be a significant leverage tool for EVG in their Newmont relationship. I still think Rattlesnake is multi mil oz but it is so big and so complex we won't easily know its true size for another 100 drill holes IMO. Carlin could become the focus with further success.

Cheers
Ogi

johnlw, G has been busy dealing some non-core properties and getting non-controlling interest in a several companies. The EVG transaction was a one of the smaller deals, but is a bit larger than the $10MM Quaterra deal done back in February. I don't think that there have been any other deals with companies this small.

With EVG it increases their exploration exposure to Nevada with some decent properties.

The QTA deal focuses on Mexico, building on the new Penasquito min and the recent Canplats acquisition.

quaterraresources.com

2010-02-10 ... formalizes the terms of a previously announced Letter of Intent that provides Goldcorp with an option to acquire an interest in certain mining properties held by or acquired by Quaterra in central Mexico in return for funding a two-year generative exploration program by the Company through a private placement investment of US$10 million in the Company.

The first US$4 million portion of the private placement, which has closed, consists of units at C$1.41 comprised of 3,001,418 common shares of the Company and 1,500,709 two-year share purchase warrants exercisable at C$1.76 per share to purchase up to 1,500,709 common shares of the Company. Under applicable securities laws, the hold periods will expire on June 5, 2010.
