I feel bad about Mel Gibson. I have enjoyed many of his movies. Not lately and especially not when he became a director only, but, still, a huge body of entertaining work. "The Year of Living Dangerously" was one of my all time favorites. Of course, I had some misadventures in Indonesia, so I may be reading more into the movie than it actually contains. "Mad Max" was o.k., "Road Warriors" was super, and the first half or "Thunderdome: was good. I liked all of the "Lethal Weapons." Despite a mangling of history, "Braveheart" was pretty good. Yes, "The Patriot" was the worst telling of The Swamp Fox story ever, but I was able to sit through it. So, I had good feelings toward the guy. It didn't bother me that he is a drunk. Hell, he's from Australia. Look at the size of their beer cans. It bothered me a little that he hated blacks. (Some of his best work was with Danny Glover) Then, that he hated Jews. And, now he hates Wetbacks. (I don't like that Michael Phelps dude, myself). I don't like that he has hit a pregnant woman who is bearing his baby. In fact, I don't like a damned thing about the real Mel Gibson. I still like the characters he played. This isn't the first time. I despise child molesters. My favorite rock singer has been arrested many times for sleeping with underaged girls. Can't stand him, but I still play his records. Life is simple when I can say, "I like Bruce Campbell's movies and I like Bruce Campbell." Or, "I dislike Russell Crowe's movies and I am not fond of him." It's confusing when you like the work and dislike the guy.
