BP is embarking on a rather clever business strategy to mitigate their losses with the large lawsuits pending.

finance.yahoo.com

excerpt:

BP PLC declined to comment Sunday on a report that it is in talks about possibly selling 8 billion pounds ($12 billion) worth of assets, including a stake in Alaska's Prudhoe Bay oil field, to U.S. oil company Apache Corp.

----------

Do you see the possibilities? If BP's executive sucessfully execute a strategy of selling off the company's assets, piecemeal, they can reward themselves with gargantuan mega-bonuses before the lawsuits hit en force.

Then, the BP execs can retire and sail off happily into the sunset on their Yachts with their multi-billion-pound fortunes safely nested away in Switzerland, leaving the peons and newly-promoted nitwits behind to clean up their messes and answer the hard questions in court.

It is the way of things.
