Here is what I have gathered,....again, I am not a lawyer and even the lawyers seem to disagree about this matter...

The Federal case claims the following -
"in our constitutional system, the federal government has preeminent authority to regulate immigration matters."

I suspect that is not in dispute - the issue seems to be about enforcement not regulation.

Arizona supposedly drafted its law with a case called DeCanas v. Bica in mind.

In any event, this seems like an odd fight to pick given the poll numbers on this issue.
