I know all of that tejek, but I think you have interpreted it incorrectly, with all due respect. Obama was elected by the independents because they wanted him to take on Wall street and fight the right wing forces that destroyed this country and take us back to the days of JFK. Obama's campaign rhetoric was far left and independents loved it! The independents wanted Obama to fight the right wing. He didn't govern like he spoke. If Obama had shored up the midddle class by running the money to the banks though the middle class e.g. helping them to refinance first and second mortgages that are a bit underwater, rammed through the Public option by reconciliation, and persued the Wall street criminals as criminals, and been all over the oil spill kicking BP's ass, and the right wing, showing strong leaership, we would not have lost the independents. Tejek, the independents are not leaving Obama for anything the liberals are doing; it is because of what Obama is doing! You are not grasping that.

Let's leave the polls out of this for a minute (they're just a part of the propoganda machine). Pres Obama wasted two years of his presidency appealing to the right wing, instead of consolidating his strength with the rest of us citizens. He is a poor strategist. Moreover, with Rahm, he tied even more dead weight to his ankles. You can't have your feet in two different boats, and now we will all be paying the price. So be it. Survival of the fittest, maybe even civil war.
