I work forest industry/shiftwork and have seen both sides.Many who retire early go back to work etc. but those who stay too long seem to not only lose their health but also all their interests.

Your point is well taken thou.....a person needs drive and retirement is not quitting/sitting but rather an opportunity to try other things.

Kidl-- I retired at 51 from the Fed gov . Full indexed pension plus package , there was an offer that i couldn't refuse as was making the same on pension as working .I do some farming in the summers . Many who you refer to as concluding that early retirement is a mistake at least are still around and in reasonable health to make that comment .
