I don't buy the proposition that people become frozen politically at age 30 for life. Ronald Reagan was a New Deal Democrat at age 30.

I don't either. I was pretty liberal back in the early seventies and even voted for Jimmy Carter. Actually, I was middle of the road, thinking myself very open minded about most ideas.

I learned two things that changed me, and I've been conservative ever since.

1) If you don't stand up for what you believe in or what you do, nobody else will do it for you.

2) Openmindedness isn't necessarily a virtue; it just means that you never cared very much for about anything to make a commitment to it.
