I still have my Buck that I got about 1972. I'll tell you a little story about that knife. I loved the Buck but didn't like the square edges on the grip, so I took it down to the shop and rounded them off with a bastard file. A few years ago they started making them exactly the same way, but for about 30 years I had the only one. I should have sent mine to Buck and got the credit for it. I made another invention that eventually became a popular item through no efforts of my own. I used to do a lot of back packing but I didn't have any small stuff sacks for my gear so my wife sewed some up out of some old sheer curtains custom fit to my gear. I liked them so well because I could see what was inside without opening them, and all the commercial stuff sacks of the time were opaque. I sent a small one in to the camping editor of Field and Stream and got a thank you letter back. Some time later they came out with the exact same concept in stuff sacks, and you can buy them at REI, Cabelas, and other outdoor suppliers. I just talked to my pard, and we discovered that we're both sort of falling apart at the seams. We made a pact that if either of us croaks before the other, our Ruger Blackhawk Flat Top Old Model .44 magnum goes to the other. We earned the money for those pistols trapping on snowshoes in the high country. We sold our furs and had the money about 30 minutes, long enough to drive to Bob Ward and sons Sporting Goods and buy two identical pistols. I think he was 14 and I was 13. You couldn't do that now.
