You people are just being silly. CA is more expensive than WA state.

Ted, > The average unemployment check in the U.S. is $293. That's $12K a year.

A minimum wage job pays $290 a week.

No wonder there are so many jobs that only illegal immigrants will take.

i-node is right. Unemployment benefits discourage people from working at real jobs.

P.S. - I'm going to hear it from the bleeding hearts. Bring it on!

"A minimum wage job pays $290 a week."

So?

That is the maximum. If you are a minimum wage worker, unemployment doesn't pay the maximum, but only a fraction of that. In Texas, that fraction is about 50%, with a cap around $370.

There is a huge difference between $290 a week and $150. The former is not adequate, the latter is much, much less so.

"i-node is right. Unemployment benefits discourage people from working at real jobs."

Only for the factually challenged.
