Very smart people in Denmark. Why do they come to America to do their work? I think you make a great point -- there are fine computer scientists all over the world and for whatever reason they continue to aggregate in the United States (in Lerdorf's case, in Canada). There are very good reasons why excellent engineers have traditionally headed to America (less now than before).

Nonsense. While it is true that at least SOME other countries hold leadership positions in new technologies, the vast majority of major developments are happening here because that's where where the business is. But if you're a software engineer and you're looking for the most exciting environments you come to the USA -- and you're looking at companies like Google, Apple, SAS, Intel, etc. These are technology leaders.

I do think America has lost its edge in some other fields and that's unfortunate. But if you're in IT, the best opportunities continue to exist in the US.
