The Dow declined to 6,547 March 3rd of last year, down from 14,165 on October 9th of 2007.

During 1930, after the crash of 1929, the Dow climbed back 50% before declining another 85% or so.

Debt liquidation is a long duration game. It's like watching a automobile accident in slow motion.

Some who remembered the 1930s told me, it was an era best characterized by what wasn't seen rather than what they saw.

"We are now speeding down the road of wasteful spending and debt, and unless we can escape we will be smashed in inflation."

President Herbert Hoover

Many people expected inflation during the last Great Depression, but they were surprised by deflation. I suspect it's a case of projecting the recent past into the future.
