I bumped into a lady I know at the post office yesterday who was sending a package back home to Bosnia. The post mistress asked for the name of the city and she replied Sarajevo - pronounced Sa-ray-vo the postmistress replied there was no such city but there was one called Sa-ree-a-vo tacking on an extra syllable. The gracious lady looked at the book the postmistress was looking at and said that would do rather than get into a protracted discussion about pronunciation with someone that knows everything under the sun but really knows very little.
