Thanks for asking, my good friend.

I've been having hints of pain for a long time. My lower back has always been a little unstable. Started noticing it more a month or so back. Two weeks ago it got my attention.

Up until now I've been able to alleviate the pain by finding a comfortable position, but my range of options is getting very narrow. I can't sit or lie on soft surfaces. Have been sleeping on the floor since Saturday. Last night the position that always worked didn't work so well.

My doctor, a physician's assistant, was fabulous. He had a full schedule yesterday but worked me in and spent good time with me. He said I scared him when he saw me sitting in a wheel chair.

I'll tell you what, this experience is giving me a little insight into what handicapped people experience every day. Let alone the suffering, it's hard to speak without sounding harsh or impatient. My late step father was confined to a wheel chair and his demands were insufferable. Little things like getting a TV remote in your hands become excruciating. You need help and it's hard to ask for it nicely when you hurt.

Best guess now is a pinched nerve in my lower spine, caused by a compromised disc.
