Our neighbor complained to animal control about our dog. they came to our door and told us to keep her in our yard or it was going to cost us money. If you know who's cats they are, you could do that too.

If the owner of the cat your wife hit had kept it on his or her own property, this wouldn't have happened.

The cat's owner is responsible for its fate. That didn't diminish our distress at knowing somebody had lost their pet. My wife worried it might be some old lady who couldn't do any better.

Even though the cat had no collar, it was a very well-fed big cat with a good coat. Obviously somebody loved it.

But not enough to keep it safe.
