Of course, he had a choice. He didn't have to do it and we'd have been better off right now had he not done it. This is where we part ways. I'm not a believer in Keynesianism, nor in bailouts. I believe that the best way to cure cancer is to cut it out and blast it to smithereens with radiation to make sure you got the whole thing. I don't believe in measures that leave the cancer in your body. Bailouts and borrow and spend Keynesianism is a delay and pretend policy. It solves nothing.
