Because of the bluedogs and other fragmented members who can never vote in a lockstep coalition like the Repugs.Gotta give the Repugs that they can circle the wagons the Demonrats can't.

But tell me why is it that the GOP has more power than the Dems do and yet the Dems are the majority in both houses and in the White House?

If they have more power its because they are willing to lie and to be totally uncooperative. MM, you are not paying attention to the day to day nuances that are happening in DC and in the country. The Rs simply say "No" with little to no explanation. They want Obama to fail.....and they will do whatever it takes to make that happen. And it doesn't matter if it hurts the country.

With an even smaller majority, Bush got done everything he wanted to do, except privatizing social security.

Because the GOP is not a big tent. There is little that separates the most conservative Rs from the more liberal Rs. And if there is disagreement, the Rs walk in lockstep. I am sure you see that as an asset but for more liberal types, fearing to disagree is a negative, not a positive. In the meantime, the Dems have members who are nearly as conservative as the Rs and others that are very liberal. The political spectrum in the Dem party is much wider as is the ethnic makeup.

tejek, you have to admit that the GOP simply is able to project more power with fewer resources than the Dems are. I don't know why that is the truth and it most certainly frustrates me, but it IS the truth.

MM, you want to believe that because then you won't have to second guess your values. Voting for Obama was hard.....it went against your nature. I understand that but Obama was and is the best choice for all Americans.

All I can say is that the rules of the right are mostly BS. The sooner you realize that and accept it the sooner you will be free of that nonsense.

Increasingly, the Rs are a party consisting of mostly affluent, older white people who don't want to lose their power in this country. For the first time, they are realizing that Christian whites may not be the majority in the not too distant future and they don't like it. People who get cornered can become very dangerous and I believe the Rs feel cornered. That's why I am very worried about this country. I would not be surprised if there is an attempt at civil war.
