I voted for Bush in 2000 and voted straight ticket GOP every election prior to that. Then I voted for Kerry in 2004 and for Obama in 2008, along with a straight Dem ticket for Congress.

Going forward, I will vote for any candidate that has fiscal sanity in mind and the intelligence and fortitude to execute on those ideas, whatever the party. I probably won't vote for a Democrat again, unless they can convince me they are not a Keynesian Democrat, or unless the GOP candidate is someone like Palin, who is such an idiot that they could do irreparable harm to this country.

Ideally, I'll find a 3rd party candidate who is centrist, fiscally responsible, and believes in focusing on the US first and foremost, instead of engaging in global cop and empire building activities. Hopefully, they also believe in a renewable energy revolution to displace our oil and coal demand, as well. That would be my ideal candidate.
