Yucky, isn't it?

We've rained off and on for two weeks accompanied by record setting temps, i.e. the rain has not been cooling things down as is typical. Our a/c runs constantly...night and day.

Our vegetable garden is a bedraggled, mildew-ridden mess. The balance of nature has tipped over to the insect world, and I've seen several I couldn't recognize, merrily chewing their way through the beans and tomatoes. It's so wet that mushrooms are growing on the thatch of the zoysia right out in the middle of the yard under the bare sun.

More alarming though is that since June it seems like every other day I hear on the local news that the temp that day "broke the all time record that was set on that day a year ago". In other words, last summer saw all time heat records being set. And now this summer, those records are being broken. Hope it's just a 2-3 years cycle and then some reversion to the mean, but the specter of all out global warming taking off comes to mind, too.

Sorry about your heat wave.

IMO nothing is more miserable than heat. With cold you can bundle up, but with heat, eventually you come to a point where there's nothing more you can take off (even for nudists). I guess you can stay in with the AC, but that's kind of limiting.
