Joey - Re: "Anyone know if PII sales were mentioned today?"

During the Question and Answer session, one know-it-all analyst posed this question to Intel:

"From what we can see, your transition to the Pentium II doesn't seem to be going as good as you said it is or as fast as you want it to be. Are your Pentium II sales low?

Paul Otellini answered:

"At the Pentium II launch, and a few months beforen the launch, we targeted the Pentium II to the business market segment. That was our initial focus. More recently, with the new school year we began targeting to the back-to-school consumer market.

The Pentium II volumes and ramp up are on schedule. In the reseller channel, two of our top six OEM customers are recording 40% of their sales are Pentium II machines."

Otellini concluded that Pentium II sales were faster than whatever information that analyst had - indicating the analyst's numbers were flat out wrong. He was, of course, more diplomatic in his choice of expressions.
