BP didn't put any flow meters in the new BOP. Therefore, the flow can only be measured if surface ships are capturing all of it. If they open up the well, it will take 3 days to capture all the flow, as they change out the equipment. During those 3 days, some or most of the flow will go unmeasured into the Gulf. In addition, conditions in the wellbore, when they open up the well, won't be the same as they were when the well was flowing freely into the Gulf for 3 months. Now, it's all static pressure (higher than before), and no dynamic pressure. So, they would have to leave the well open for at least 3 days (longer if there are delays in getting things operational, and there always seems to be delays).

So, I don't think they ever measure the flow. BP was sneaky and clever, not putting flow-meters in the new BOP. As an investor, I applaud. As a citizen and environmentalist...
