Two men are dead and four injured from gunshots fired around 9 p.m. Saturday at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah. King County Sheriff's Office spokesman John Urquhart said police had at least six in custody. We lived in Juneau, which has a very substantial Filipino population. It's actually a very constructive enclave, proud of itself and had a great contingent in parades.

But many of them were rude, chattering away in the Filipino dialect of Spanish in public. My wife worked at the fine jewelry counter in Penney's, and they were always trying to take advantage of her. She was on to them, though, and they got away with nothing.

I hope Americans behave better abroad. But I doubt it.

I wouldn't do that as long as they're only talking to one another. People who grow up speaking another language may feel more comfortable speaking it to family and friends even if they are fluent in English.
