Obama was a barely competent water carrier for crooks like Tony Rezko in the IL state legislature. He ran for the US Senate but was a sure loser until a judge opened up child custody hearing documents in late June 2004 from the Jack and Jeri Ryan 1999 divorce trial. Jeri Ryan had made accusations that years ago her ex had wanted her to go to sex clubs with him. That caused Ryan to drop out of the race, giving Obama a surprise victory in the US Senate race. He knew he was a sure loser in 2010 when the Republicans would have had time to find an electable candidate to run against him. Normally, he would have simply pushed as much pork back to IL, cashed in favors (like the $300K a year fake job created for his wife and done away with as soon as he was elected President), and called in whatever chips he'd been able to accumulate by 2010 when he went back to IL. He had nothing to lose by running for President. It was his only shot. If he didn't run in 2008, by 2012 he'd be back in Chicago, probably doing minority set-aside real estate deals like his proteges Valerie Jarrett and Allison Davis.
