But it's wrong to call it "stimulus." Stimulus is meant to be temporary. If you remove it and the economy falters, then it didn't do much stimulating, did it?

So this has happened already?

>I already know that you're fine with safety net "make work" programs.

They're not "make work" if they're doing productive things. Our country has so many needs right now...

The economy is in a better place than it was before the stimulus. The freefall did stop. But as I and many others predicted, it wasn't enough to fix the problems. A larger stimulus would work much better. And yes, it might be a stimulus that goes on for a couple of years. Whatever it takes to get things going again...

I just don't see how a person can argue with Morgenthau on this. He was, after all, key to the implementation of the New Deal.

"In 1939, ten years after the crash on Wall Street, the Secretary of the Treasury, Henry Morgenthau, Jr., told the House Ways and Means Committee:

'We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and if I am wrong…somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises…I say after eight years of this administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started…And an enormous debt to boot!'”
