"Have you ever been on unemployment? If you don't make an effort to find a job, you don't get paid. You can even be required to pay back any unemployment you have received if they think you haven't put in good faith effort."

You can tell he's never had the experience and believes a lot of fables put out there. I was on it for two weeks. I couldn't BELIEVE the hassle! I got a job after two weeks, and they wanted the money back because I hadn't been on it long enough!

Being on unemployment sucks and is no fun at all. They make sure you're actually LOOKING for a job. Everything has to be done precisely, or you don't get paid. You don't get to just lay back and watch daytime TV.

CJ, > Have you ever been on unemployment? If you don't make an effort to find a job, you don't get paid.

I've never been on unemployment personally, but I do know that you don't need to make any effort to find a job. All you have to do is pretend that you are. Sending out resumes, looking through Monster.com, etc. is enough.

I know that not everyone can find temporary jobs while looking for more permanent ones. But many people can. They don't need to, though, if they're collecting unemployment checks. Why work (or start a business) when the checks pay almost as much?
