Mere hand waving. You don't spend millions of dollars over decades to support a single issue like that unless it benefits you somehow. They essentially created this issue.

Bullshit. It does no such thing. Most businesses that might be affected adversely by the estate tax are incorporated. If the family loses control because of estate taxes, it isn't going to kill the business. It might even be a boon to said business.

That's not the only thing it does well. It also provides employment for tax lawyers, accountants, and estate planners. And its pretty good at diverting resources from their most efficient application.

What its not so good at is raising money for the government, relative to the costs the tax imposes.
