Even if tax increases increased revenue (they don't) increasing taxes will increase the debt since the progressives spend $1.25 for every $1 the treasury takes in.

Taxes are increased for one reason and only one reason - to increase the fraction of the nation's wealth controlled by the state. Even if it makes the pie smaller as long as they get to control more of it that's a good thing.
