I didn't realize how cynical I've become. I think I watch too much Marc Faber and Gerald Celente but I am fairly certain everything is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better. Couple that with the long term trend that it requires more and more training, education and brains to earn more than the medium income. In other words a greater percent of the population is stuck in the lower income groups. This requires some form of redistribution, but welfare destroys families and the individual will to achieve. Thats not good, but maybe welfare is just the soma that keeps the poor subdued.
